On This Day—December 2, 2014: Celebrity Chef arrested outside Park

December 2, 2023 By Imko Oaljefanta, TMD Archivist

Tab Tricolore: "You have to offer an extraordinary culinary experience or else Animals will not dine at your restaurant."Celebrity Chef and award-winning author Tab Tricolore has been arrested outside The Park, according to the staff at his fine dining restaurant, Klo.

The owner of three other restaurants, Clowder, Coda, and The Tabby Club, as well as the the soon-to-be-opened PurrBoy Café at the Park Museum, was last seen at Klo this morning.

“He left at about 11:00. He went on one of his regular trips outside The Park, to source ingredients for tonight’s special,” said Klo manager Léopard Mirepoix. He declined to say what the special was.

“I saw him leave The Park and I haven’t seen him since. He was due back within the hour.”

Mirepoix said he thought nothing of Tricolore’s lateness until Footpad Heaven manager Adamma Bandicoot arrived at Klo. She told him that she’d seen the chef cross the border and believed that he’d been arrested.

“He was picked up, in any case. I’m not sure whether it was by police or another Human service. They were wearing uniforms and they were carrying a mobile prison cell,” she said.

Mirepoix confirmed that Tricolore had left his chef’s hat at the restaurant, so it is unlikely the Humans knew who he was.

Although Klo intends to remain open tonight, Tricolore’s other restaurants will be closed so that staff members can join Park Police in their search for the chef.

“We are all outraged and frightened,”  Mirepoix said. “His well-being is all we can think about.”

On This Day—November 26, 2014: Chef Tab Tricolore to collaborate with artists on PMoCA 2015 installation

November 26, 2023 By Imko Oaljefanta, TMD Archivist

Tab Tricolore: "You have to offer an extraordinary culinary experience or else Animals will not dine at your restaurant."Celebrity Chef and award-winning author Tab Tricolore will collaborate with a group of artists on the Park Museum of Contemporary Art’s 2015 installation.

Aulikki Norsu, president of PMoCA’s board of directors, confirmed the collaboration between the museum and the controversial chef in a statement released this morning.

“We are pleased to announce that renowned Park Chef Tab Tricolore will serve as creative director of our 2015 art installation. The chef will work closely with our in-house staff as well as with Park artists that he will select personally to craft what we anticipate will be a thought-provoking piece,” the statement reads.

The subject of the installation remains a “closely-guarded secret,” the statement said, but those close to Tricolore say it is safe to assume that it will be food-related.

“As you know, Tab is obsessed with food. He can barely be distracted; his mind is always going, he’s always working and reworking recipes, sourcing new ingredients, looking to other species for inspiration. He’s an artist, himself, and I can’t imagine that if he got involved in a ‘real’ art project, that it wouldn’t at least include food, if not be totally about food,” said his former saucier, Barry “Béarnaise” Burmilla.

Although a date has not been announced for the opening, the museum statement said it expected the installation to be ready by the Spring.

Tab Tricolore: “Working on this art installation has saved me.”

March 9, 2015 By Aednat Eilifint, TMD Arts and Entertainment Reporter

Chef Tab Tricolore

It’s rare for Tab Tricolore to talk publicly about his feelings, but that’s just what happened yesterday.

During an interview with Yannis Tavros on Toro Talk Radio, the celebrity chef and award-winning author let down his guard for just a moment and talked openly about his life since his return to The Park in December.

“There were some very difficult days,” he said, about halfway through the interview.

Tricolore, whose PurrBoy Café opened on March 1 at The Park Museum, said he wasn’t ready to divulge any more details until he has talked to the police. But he did say that one of the bright spots in his life is the work that he’s been engaged in with other artists on an art installation.

The piece, entitled, “La Langue au Repos,” is due to open at the Park Museum of Contemporary Art (PMoCA) this Spring.

“Working on this art installation has saved me,” Tricolore said, as he praised his fellow artists for their open-mindedness in welcoming him into the fold.

“I’ve told them they’re more than welcome to cook at any of my restaurants anytime,” he said. “Under supervision, of course.”

La Langue au Repos will open at the Park Museum of Contemporary Art in April.
